The short version

  • Your trips stay on your iPhone. I never receive them.
  • No account, no ads, no analytics, no crash reporting.
  • The only thing that leaves your phone is what is needed to check a Mileo Pro subscription.

Who makes Mileo

Mileo is a mileage log for iPhone, published by Joshua Huffman (“I”, “me”). This policy explains what Mileo does with your information.

What stays on your iPhone

Everything you record or type into Mileo is stored on your iPhone, in Mileo’s app storage. I don’t receive it. This includes:

  • Trips: start and end times, distance, the GPS route (location points with time, speed and altitude), and start and end coordinates
  • Details you add: vehicle names, trip categories, businesses (including an optional tax ID), purposes, notes, tags, odometer readings, mileage rates, trip templates, and whether a trip has been marked paid
  • Your settings

If your iPhone is backed up to iCloud or a computer, this data is included in that backup. Apple handles those backups under Apple’s privacy policy.

You can export trips (CSV, PDF or spreadsheet text) and back up everything to a file. Those files only go where you send them through the share sheet or file picker. A backup file contains everything, including routes and any tax ID, so keep it somewhere private.

Location and motion

  • Location is used to record the route and distance of a trip. For trips you start, Mileo uses location only while the trip is running. If you lock your phone during a trip, recording continues and iOS shows the blue location indicator.
  • Smart Tracking (optional, Mileo Pro) uses background location and significant-location-change monitoring so Mileo can notice when you start driving, even when the app is closed. It is off until you turn it on.
  • Motion & Fitness activity is used to tell driving from walking or being parked: to start and stop Smart Tracking trips, and to save a trip after 20 minutes parked when Parked Trips is on.

Location and motion data are processed on your iPhone and stored only as part of your trips. Mileo doesn’t send them to me or to anyone else.

Lock Screen

While a trip is running, the Live Activity shows the vehicle name, category, distance and time on your Lock Screen, where anyone holding your phone can see it. You can turn Live Activities off in Mileo’s Settings.

Notifications

Mileo sends local notifications, created on your iPhone and not sent from a server, when a trip starts, is saved, or needs your review. You can turn them off in the iOS Settings app.

Maps

When you view a trip’s route, Mileo uses Apple Maps to draw the map. To load map tiles, your iPhone asks Apple for map data for the area on screen. Mileo doesn’t send your trip to Apple; it draws the route on top of the map on your iPhone.

Subscriptions (Mileo Pro)

Purchases go through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes the payment; I never see your payment details, name or Apple Account.

To check whether you have an active subscription, Mileo uses RevenueCat, Inc., a subscription service. When Mileo checks or restores a purchase, RevenueCat receives:

  • App Store transaction information for Mileo purchases: which product, purchase and expiry dates, price and storefront country
  • A random ID that RevenueCat creates for your install. It isn’t tied to your name, email or Apple Account.
  • Apple’s “identifier for vendor,” a device ID that is the same across apps from the same developer on your iPhone. It is not an advertising ID and can’t be used to track you across other companies’ apps.
  • Technical details needed to answer the request: device model, iOS version, app version, language and your IP address

RevenueCat uses this to confirm your subscription and to give me totals, such as how many people subscribed. It doesn’t receive your trips, location or anything else you record in Mileo. RevenueCat’s privacy policy.

What Mileo doesn’t do

  • No accounts or sign-in
  • No advertising, and no advertising identifier
  • No analytics or crash-reporting services
  • No selling or sharing of your information
  • No tracking across other companies’ apps or websites

Children

Mileo is not directed to children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect information from them.

Keeping and deleting your information

Trip data stays on your iPhone until you delete it. You can delete individual trips in the app, or delete everything by deleting the Mileo app. Delete any exports or backup files you saved elsewhere too.

Subscription records held by RevenueCat are kept as needed to provide and account for the subscription. To ask for them to be deleted, email me with the date of your purchase and I’ll pass the request to RevenueCat.

Your choices

  • Turn location, motion or notification access on or off in the iOS Settings app. Without location, Mileo can’t record GPS trips, but you can still add trips by hand.
  • Turn off Smart Tracking, Parked Trips or Live Activities in Mileo’s Settings.
  • Manage or cancel a subscription in Settings › your name › Subscriptions.

Changes

If this policy changes, I’ll update the date at the top and post the new version at this address. If a change affects what leaves your device, I’ll say so in the app’s update notes too.
